Russia's foreign minister warned against threatening Iran over its nuclear program Monday after Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld reportedly agreed with a German interviewer that all options, including military response, remained on the table.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called for talks to continue with Tehran, which was reported to the U.N. Security Council on Saturday by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"I think that at the current stage, it is important not to make guesses about what will happen and even more important not to make threats," Lavrov said during a visit to Athens, Greece.

Rumsfeld, in an interview with the German daily newspaper Handelsblatt, was asked if all options, including the military one, were on the table with Iran.
"That's right," Rumsfeld responded, according to Handelsblatt's print edition Monday.

Lavrov said the use of force would be possible only if the United Nations consented.

Iran reiterated its stance that it would not negotiate with the United States.
"There is no debate about relations and negotiation with the U.S. There has been no change in our policy," Gholamhossein Elham, Iran's government spokesman, said Monday.

America Expects Surveillance

Monitoring the enemy is necessary and appropriate.

BY ALBERTO R. GONZALES
Monday, February 6, 2006 12:01 a.m. EST

In the days following Sept. 11, 2001, President Bush charted a course of action to respond to the worst attack on our homeland in history. He promised to use every tool available to defeat al Qaeda and pledged to take the fight to the enemy abroad as he worked to prevent another attack. As he said in the State of the Union address, "Our country must remain on the offensive against terrorism here at home." The president has the constitutional responsibility--and authority--to lead this response.
After Sept. 11, Congress immediately confirmed the president's constitutional authority to "use all necessary and appropriate force" against those "those nations, organizations, or persons he determines" responsible for the attacks. The Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) gave the president the latitude to use a full complement of tools and tactics against our enemy. A majority of Supreme Court justices have concluded that the AUMF authorizes the president to use "fundamental and accepted" incidents of military force in our armed conflict with al Qaeda. The use of signals intelligence--intercepting enemy communications--is a fundamental incident of waging war.

With the recent leak of the NSA's terrorist surveillance program, some have questioned whether this congressional authorization can be read to encompass signals intelligence. In this case, our military is engaged in signals intelligence when they have reason to believe that at least one person is a member or agent of al Qaeda or a related terrorist organization communicating into or out of the U.S. The purpose is to learn the locations, plans and capabilities of our enemy. Consider the facts from both a legal and a commonsense perspective.
The president, as commander in chief, has asserted his authority to use sophisticated military drones to search for Osama bin Laden, to deploy our armed forces in combat zones, and to kill or capture al Qaeda operatives around the world. No one would dispute that the AUMF supports the president in each of these actions.
It is, therefore, inconceivable that the AUMF does not also support the president's efforts to intercept the communications of our enemies. Any future al Qaeda attacks on the homeland are likely to be carried out, like Sept. 11, by operatives hiding among us. The NSA terrorist surveillance program is a military operation designed to detect them quickly. Efforts to identify the terrorists and their plans expeditiously while ensuring faithful adherence to the Constitution and our existing laws is precisely what America expects from the president.
History is clear that signals intelligence is, to use the language of the Supreme Court, "a fundamental incident of waging war." President Wilson authorized the military to intercept all telegraph, telephone and cable communications into and out of the U.S. during World War I. The day after Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt authorized the interception of all communications traffic into and out of the U.S. These sweeping measures were seen as necessary and lawful during critical moments of past armed conflicts. So, too, are the more focused intercepts of al Qaeda during our current armed conflict, especially given the nature of the enemy we face.
The AUMF is broad in scope, and understandably so; Congress could not have catalogued every possible aspect of military force it was endorsing. That's why the Supreme Court ruled in Hamdi v. Rumsfeld that the detention of enemy combatants--a fundamental incident of war-- was lawful, even though detention is not mentioned in the AUMF. The same argument holds true for the terrorist surveillance program. Nor was the president's authorization of the terrorist surveillance program in violation of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. FISA bars persons from intentionally "engag[ing] . . . in electronic surveillance under color of law except as authorized by statute." The AUMF provides this statutory authorization for the terrorist surveillance program as an exception to FISA.
Lastly, the terrorist surveillance program fully complies with the Fourth Amendment, which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures. Like sobriety checkpoints or border searches, this program involves "special needs" beyond routine law enforcement, an exception to the warrant requirement upheld by the Supreme Court as consistent with the Fourth Amendment.

The AUMF is not a blank check for the president to cash at the expense of the rights of citizens. The NSA's terrorist surveillance program is narrowly focused on the international communications of persons believed to be members or agents of al Qaeda or affiliated terrorist organizations. The terrorist surveillance program protects both the security of the nation and the rights and liberties we cherish. As the president said in his State of the Union speech, "the terrorist surveillance program has helped prevent terrorist attacks. It remains essential to the security of America." When I testify before Congress today, I will tell them not only that the president had the authority to use this effective antiterror tool, but that it would have been irresponsible for him not to employ this weapon to prevent another attack on our country.

President releases statement on defense of Iran's nuclear rights

Feb 5, IRNA

Iran-Ahmadinejad-Nuclear President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Sunday in a tatement addressing the dignified and courageous nation of Iran referred to some points about the government's firm determination to defend the inalienable national rights to nuclear activity.
Meanwhile, the statement, a copy of which was received by IRNA, referred to the concurrence of the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies and the mourning of Imam Hossein (AS) as a suitable opportunity to stress the close relation between the movement of the Iranian nation and the path of human perfection, the prophets movement, the nation's exclusive features in the field of culture and civilization and its effort towards human perfection.
Addressing the nation, it said, "Today, you are the flag-bearer of peace and sustainable tranquility based on justice and spirituality. You are a model for all the world freedom-seeking and justice-seeking nations.
"Your resistance, effort and assistance over the past 27 years has prepared all the grounds for a great leap and establishment of a developed, advanced, powerful and exemplary Islamic community and has opened the route of elevation and progress to all generations." In his statement, the president said that the leaders of several world hegemonic powers who have bowed down to your glory and been disappointed at dealing blows on you attempt to disrupt the progress of the gifted and wise Iranian youth by propaganda, psychological warfare, hue and cry, causing panic and making use of some international bodies.
"They have announced that the Iranian nation does not even have the right to conduct research on peaceful nuclear energy. Their excuse for such an illegal move was said to be the possible deviation of Iran towards nuclear weapons.
"This is while despite extensive unprecedented inspection of the country's nuclear installations and installation of numerous cameras, not even the slightest evidence proving such a claim has so far been found. Therefore, the following points should be noticed," added Ahmadinejad.
"Peaceful nuclear technology is the best achievement of Iranian youth and scholars, which has not been availed neither by any individual nor by any country, so it cannot be denied.
"The extent of its application in industries, agriculture, medicine, environment and energy is such that access to high economic and social aims is impossible without it.
"If we let them deprive us of such a right, in a not-too-far future, we should regret and extend our hands towards the big powers for it. Then what will be our response to the courageous offsprings of the Iranian nation in future for any possible shortcoming? "Without paying attention to their own measures and that of their allies in development of nuclear weapons and power plants, some of which are even members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors without even joining the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) they intend to interrupt our completely transparent, legal and peaceful activities even research on it under various excuses, unfounded charges and using their influence in some international bodies.
"Iran's government voluntarily suspended its nuclear programs for three years with the aim of confidence building. However, despite full cooperation, the claims of these countries kept increasing day by day instead of appreciating Iran's proper move so that resumption of the measures suspended on a voluntary basis was considered as a great and unforgivable crime.
"Not only did they fail to take a positive step to call off the ban on the nation's legal right, but also announced a new expectation every day. Now they will not be satisfied unless all our nuclear activities and any measure taking our nation one step forward are completely stopped.
"Iran's government volunteered to implement the Additional Protocol merely for confidence building and even cooperated with the UN nuclear watchdog beyond the framework of the law to allow inspection of the country's nuclear installations without the ratification of Majlis.
"This is while, no other IAEA member state has ever agreed with such inspection. Besides, to do away with any excuses, Iran even went so far as declaring its readiness for participation of other countries in the process of its nuclear fuel cycle. However, even this effective and unprecedented proposal did not stop the opposition of the said countries.
"The unlawful approach of these countries assuming themselves to represent all governments and nations proves that their opposition is based on their selfishness and monopolism.
"They keep on pointing to the UN Security Council, which is supposed to safeguard the world peace and security, as a threat for pressurizing the nations and thus question the reputation of the international institutions.
"They are aware that they are not able to take any remarkable and effective step against the interests of the Iranian nation and wish to make us withdraw under political pressure.
"As a servant of the nation, the government considers itself duty-bound to support the noble and courageous people and strongly defend their rights." The president ended his statement by calling on people to participate in the mourning ceremonies commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hossein (AS).
"In particular on Bahman 22, (February 11), the anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, you should cry out for your nuclear right, which is not less important than that of nationalization of oil, to let the world hear the request and determination of the Iranian nation.
"Meanwhile, the government will comply with its tasks to this end," concluded the chief executive.

The Next phase of Lets try to Scare the Public

The raving of the Loons
by The City Troll

There is now a story running in Newsweek. Can the President Order a Killing on U.S. Soil? In which they quote "anonymous" sources about a a closed-door Senate intelligence committee meeting. Where California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked about the extent of presidential powers to fight Al Qaeda; could Bush, for instance, order the killing of a Qaeda suspect known to be on U.S. soil?

Here comes the next tactic "ooohh not only is he listening in on your phone calls but if he doesn't like what he hears he can order your death at the hands of his secret police". The left has gone totally over the edge. I also heard a lunatic on the radio the other day by the name of Lionel, a man who believes he speaks for the "real majority". This wacko first spent a half hour explaining why the U.S. is a fascist country and then going through the state of the union speech line by line to show how "nefarious" the President is. The stance of the left would be laughable if it weren't for the fact that some of the real loons hold elected office.

Lets get something straight, and this is going to make a lot of people upset but like it or not these are the facts. The President no matter who he is has the authority to do anything in the name of National Security period. That's the facts. Whether it's listen to your phone calls, order someone held without charges, or order an execution if it falls under National Security he can do it.

The president has the ability due to article two. Article 2 is a DELEGATION of power as commander in chief period. The only check on that is the supreme court and the electorate. Both the congress and the president not only have a right to decide what is constitutional they each have an obligation to do so, and when there is a dispute between the two about what is constitutional ONLY the supreme court can rule on which side is right or wrong. The fisa court in this instance not only does not have jurisdiction it is unconstitutional. The FISA court is in violation of the constitution if it is used to restrict the Commander in chiefs ability to conduct national security period.

Unless the left can PROVE that his authority is being used in a manner other than National Security they are beating a dead horse. If they continue to insist that terrorists should be given rights at home and on the battlefield that they are not entitled to, it is the electorate that will execute them right out of office.

INVASION USA

Grenades, bombs found at borderFeds say Laredo cache belonged to drug cartel
© 2006 WorldNetDaily.com

A federal task force yesterday seized weapons, grenades and homemade bombs in Laredo, Texas, the scene of deadly border violence in the last year.
It was the second stash of weapons and explosives found by the team in the last week – a sign, Customs agents say, of a war between drug cartels vying for control of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Laredo law enforcement officials called the weapons' discovery – which apparently marks the first time such explosives have been found in the city – a worrisome development.
The feds captured more than 30 homemade bombs, grenade components, assault weapons, silencers, machine gun assembly kits, bulletproof vests, police scanners and cash, Julie Myers, assistant secretary of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in a statement.
Two of the bombs had been completed and others were under assembly, said officials from the task force that involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement, FBI, local authorities and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Officials said they also found the weapons in homes during January 12, 26 and 27 searches.
U.S. authorities have said they increasingly fear violence in Mexico will spill over into the United States.
About 170 deaths have been attributed to the cartel battles in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, in the past year, officials said. Nuevo Laredo is across the Rio Grande from Laredo.

Iran launched 'secret' rocket test

From correspondents in Berlin
February 04, 2006

IRAN secretly tested a new surface-to-surface missile (SSM) on January 17, seeking to establish the measurements needed for long-range missiles, the German daily Die Welt reported in its issue to appear today. The test, conducted by members of the Revolutionary Guard led by Yahya Rahim Safavi, was successful, according to Western diplomats cited by the newspaper, which did not indicate the location where the test took place.
On January 28, Safavi said that Iran would use its ballistic missiles if it was attacked.
"Iran has a ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 kilometres," he said on Iranian public television.
"We do not intend to attack any country, but if we are attacked, we are capable of effectively responding. Our position is defensive."
Mr Safavi was referring to the Shahab-3 missiles that Iran possesses which can reach Israel and US bases in the Middle East.

Civil rights activist and NAACP Chairman Julian Bond delivered a blistering partisan speech at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina last night, equating the Republican Party with the Nazi Party and characterizing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and her predecessor, Colin Powell, as "tokens."
"The Republican Party would have the American flag and the swastika flying side by side," he charged.
