Russia to base missiles on EU border: Medvedev
Russia will place short-range missile systems on the EU's eastern border to counter planned US missile defence installations in Eastern Europe, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday. "Iskander missile systems will be deployed in the Kaliningrad region to neutralise the missile defence system," Medvedev said.
The Iskander are short-range missiles that use conventional warheads with a range of up to 400 kilometres (248 miles). Medvedev did not give any details on the type of scrambling devices that Russia would deploy in Kaliningrad.
IAF kills Islamic Jihad terrorist in northern Gaza airstrike
A Palestinian gunman was killed Wednesday night in an IAF airstrike in northern Gaza.
The army said it identified a rocket launcher and fired in his direction. Dr. Moaiya Hassanain, a Palestinian Health Ministry official, confirmed that one person was killed and the Islamic Jihad identified that man as a member of the group.
It came after Hamas fired approximately 45 rockets and dozens of mortar shells at the South on Wednesday, striking a residential area in Ashkelon and outlying areas around Sderot, in retaliation for an IDF special forces raid launched against an underground arms tunnel on the Gaza border Tuesday night.
Iran army warns US forces to steer clear of borders
TEHRAN (AFP) — Tehran's military on Wednesday urged US forces to steer clear of Iran's borders with neighbouring Iraq and warned it would respond "to any invasion," the official IRNA news agency reported.
